Compensation varies with each agency, but here are some typical figures…
Typical compensation ranges from $45,000 – $85,000, based on several factors.
Once a candidate has gone through a thorough pre-screening process to make sure that surrogacy is SAFE for her, she’s ready to match with intended parents!
Surrogates set their preferences and match with like-minded intended parents.
All expenses are paid for the surrogate to meet with the parents’ IVF doctor for an in-person medical evaluation. If travel is required, those expenses are paid for as well as a per diem for meals and expenses.
Once medical clearance has been issued by the physician, the surrogate and intended parents will agree on terms in a legal contract. The surrogate will have her own counsel to review her legal contract, and the expenses for the surrogate’s attorney are paid for by the intended parents.

- Base Compensation starting at $40,000+ (issued in 8-10 monthly installments beginning at heartbeat confirmation, and balance paid in full no later than 10 days after delivery)
Post-partum Benefits & Compensation for Surrogates
- Lost wages for postpartum recovery (6 weeks for vaginal delivery, 8 weeks for C-section)
- Weekly allowance for pumping breastmilk starting at $250+ per week
- Support from Mental Health Professional as needed (actual cost)
- Health insurance premium continues until 2 months postpartum or longer
As-Needed Compensation & Benefits for Surrogates
- Canceled cycle fee $500+
- C-section fee $1,500+
- Bedrest Allowance $400/week+
- Spouse/Partner lost wages (actual)
- Invasive Procedure fee (i.e. amniocentesis, cervical cerclage, etc.)
